Daniel Elge set a new school record in the shot put and senior
Dylan Kneifl hit an NCAA provisional mark in the high jump to lead the Wayne State indoor men's track and field team Friday at SDSU Holiday Invite at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex in Brookings, South Dakota. The Wildcats tied for fifth out of 20 teams with 30 points.
South Dakota edged host South Dakota State for the team title 148-144 with Dordt third at 73.5. Midland took fourth at 43 points with WSC, Augustana and Sioux Falls tied for fifth with 30 points.
Elge, a junior from Aurora, posted a fifth place finish in the shot put with a new school record throw of 53' ¼", surpassing the previous school mark of 52' 6 ¾" set by Brad Wright in 2013.
Kneifl, a senior from Wisner-Pilger HS, cleared 6' 8 ¾" to place third while reaching an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the first meet of the season.
Pierce junior
Logan Moeller posted a third-place finish in the long jump (22' 10") while Wakefield senior Gabe Peitz was fourth in the one mile run at 4:25.42.
Cody Rogers placed in two events, taking eighth in the triple jump at 42' 10 ¾" and eighth in the long jump with a top mark of 21' 6".
Senior
Abe Schroeder took fifth in the 5,000-meter run (16:19.25),
Braden Johnson was seventh in the long jump at 21' 10",
Quentin Dreyer finished eighth in the 3,000-meter run (8:50.36),
Alex Leuenberger was 10
th in the 400-meter dash at 50.80 seconds while freshman
Elliott Nottlemann placed 10
th in the high jump clearing 6' 2 ¾".
Wayne State resumes the 2024 indoor track and field season on Saturday, January 13
th at the Mount Marty Invite in Yankton, South Dakota.
