Box Score Drury 16 Wayne State 2 (5 inn.)
Drury University took advantage of six Wayne State errors as the Panthers downed the Wildcats 16-2 in five innings Saturday afternoon at the Pittsburg State Softball Triangular in Kansas. Drury is now 3-7 with the win while WSC drops to 0-2.
The Panthers plated two runs in the first followed by eight more in the second to take control early with eight of the first nine runs scored by Drury unearned due to Wayne State errors.
Drury produced five more runs in the third to take a 15-0 lead.
Wayne State got on the scoreboard in the third when senior catcher
Kim Vidlak tripled to right center field, bringing home
Lauren Laudick who singled to first to start the inning.
The 'Cats scored again in the fourth as the 'Cats loaded the bases on three singles by
Annika Manzanares,
Abby Husing and
Riley Holmberg. Vidlak's RBI fielder's choice brought home Manzanares for the second Wildcat run.
One more run scored by Drury in the top of the fifth inning made the final score 16-2.
Wayne State had eight hits in the contest with Husing and Manzanares each recording two singles. Vidlak tripled and drove in both Wildcat runs while Holmberg, Laudick and
Madison Gomez each added singles.
Sophomore starter
Grace Lucka recorded the pitching loss, working the opening 1 2/3 innings. Senior
Hadley Chvatal (1/3 inning) and
Samantha Felt (3 innings) also saw action in the circle for the Wildcats.
Wayne State will play two more games Sunday at the Pittsburg State Triangular, facing Pittsburg State at 10 a.m. and Drury at noon.
