Paiton Tornberg and
Annika Manzanares combined for seven RBI while sophomore pitcher Sami Felt fired a complete game win to lead Wayne State College past Northwest Missouri State 8-2 Saturday afternoon at the Washburn Softball Tournament in Topeka, Kansas. The 'Cats are now 1-5 on the year while NMSU drops to 6-5.
Wayne State got on the board quickly with a three-run first inning to grab the lead.
Riley Holmberg opened with a walk followed by a single from
Abby Husing.
Kim Vidlak came up with an RBI double to right field scoring Holmberg with the first run of the game. Tornberg came up next and laced a two-run single to right field scoring Husing and Vidlak for a 3-0 Wildcat advantage.

Annika Manzanares.
Manzanares gave WSC a 5-0 lead in the fourth inning on a solo homer over the left center field fence.
Northwest Missouri State scored two runs in the top of the fifth to make the score 5-2, but the 'Cats responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame to keep the lead.
Natalie Arbizu opened with a single to left.
Abby Husing reached on an error by the Bearcats with Tornberg coming up with another two-run single to right center giving WSC a 7-2 lead. Manzanares added an RBI fielder's choice to score Vidlak (fielder's choice) to put the 'Cats ahed 8-2.
Felt shut down the Bearcats the rest of the way to give Wayne State the 8-2 victory.
NMSU held a 10-8 edge over Wayne State in hits. Tornberg finished 2 for 3 with 4 RBI on a pair of two-run singles. Manzanares homered and drove in three runs. Vidlak doubled, scored twice and had an RBI while Holmberg,
Madison Gomez, Husing and Arbizu each singled while Holmberg scored twice.
Felt picked up the complete game win in the circle, allowing a pair of unearned runs on 10 hits with five strikeouts and three walks.
The Wildcats play again later today against Fort Hays State (3:30 p.m.) at the Washburn Softball Tournament in Topeka, Kansas.
