Emporia State rallies for 8-4 win over Wildcats

            Emporia State scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally for an 8-4 victory over Wayne State College Sunday afternoon at the Washburn Softball Tournament in Topeka, Kansas.  The Hornets move to 10-5 following the win while WSC slips to 1-7.
            The Hornets opened the scoring with a single run in the bottom of the second to grab a 1-0 lead.
            Wayne State gained a 2-1 advantage in the top of the fourth inning thanks to a two-out rally when Madison Gomez singled to right field followed by a two-run homer to left by Natalie Arbizu.
            The 'Cats added two more runs in the top of the fifth for a 4-1 lead when Riley Holmberg led off the frame with a single and scored on a Kim Vidlak triple to right center field for the first run.  The next at bat saw Paiton Tornberg hit an infield single to second that brought home Vidlak.
            But Emporia State stormed back in the bottom of the sixth inning recording four hits to go with a pair of walks to score seven runs to rally for the 8-4 win.
            Wayne State had 11 hits in the contest.  Torrnberg finished 3 for 4 while Vidlak was 2 for 4 with a triple and RBI.  Lauren Laudick was 2 for 3 with a pair of singles while Arbizu hit a two-run homer.
            Sami Felt was the starting pitcher in the contest and worked five innings plus one batter in the sixth.  Reliever Sophie Stuart suffered the loss.
            Wayne State was scheduled to face host #20 Washburn to close out play at the Washburn Softball Tournament.
