#7 Grand Valley State shuts down Wildcats 3-0

            #7 Grand Valley State scored single runs in the first, third and fifth innings to blank Wayne State College 3-0 Friday morning at the National Training Center Spring Games Softball Tournament played in Clermont, Florida.  With the win the Lakers are now 12-2 while the Wildcats drop to 3-15.
            The Lakers put together four hits in the opening inning to score one run for an early lead.
            GVSU added single runs in the third and fifth for their 3-0 win.
            Wayne State had scoring chances in the fifth and seventh innings leaving two runners on base each frame.  In the fifth, Annika Manzanares doubled and moved to third on a bunt single from Natalie Arbizu with one out.  But the Lakers got back-to-back outs to get out of the inning.
            In the seventh, WSC got singles from Manzanares and Abby Husing to put two runners on again but Grand Valley State was able to stop the Wildcat rally and end the contest with a 3-0 win.
            Grand Valley State held a 9-6 edge in hits over the Wildcats.  Manzanares went 2 for 3 with a double and single to lead WSC at the plate.  Riley Holmberg, Kim Vidlak, Arbizu and Husing each added singles.
            Sophomore starter Sami Felt (2-8) suffered the pitching loss despite a strong outing, allowing just three runs (two earned) with three strikeouts and one walk.  Freshman Sophie Stuart pitched the final inning and gave up one hit with one walk and one strikeout.
            Wayne State will close out play at the National Training Center Spring Games Friday afternoon with a game against Kentucky Wesleyan.
