Defending NCAA Division II beach national champion Colorado Mesa snapped Wayne State's six-match win streak Saturday morning with a 5-0 win over the Wildcats to close out Wayne State's spring break beach volleyball trip to Arizona. The Wildcats ended their spring trip with a 6-1 record and are now 6-3 on the year while the Mavericks are 2-3.
One of the five matches went three sets as
Maggie Brahmer and
Havyn Heinz in the 5's pairing won the first set 21-14 before falling to Colorado Mesa's Savannah Ott and Hailey Peters 21-8 and 15-9 in the final two sets.
Taya Beller and
Allie Petry in the 1's match went extra points in the first set before falling 22-20 and 21-8. #2's pairing
Kelsie Cada and
Jordan McCormick fell 21-15, 21-16 and
Ally Beresford and
Isabelle Vacek in 3's suffered a 21-13, 21-18 defeat.
Brooke Peltz and
Rachel Walker lost in the 4's match 21-12, 21-8.
Wayne State resumes play on Wednesday when the Wildcats travel to Shawnee, Kansas for the Ottawa (Kan.) Beach Tournament, playing four matches starting at noon against Missouri Baptist.
