Game 2 - Southwest Minnesota State 10 Wayne State 3

Southwest Minnesota State swept Wayne State College 5-3 and 10-3 in Northern Sun Conference baseball Friday afternoon at Overin Field in Wayne.  The Mustangs improve to 10-7 and 2-5 in the NSIC while the Wildcats drop to 8-13 and 2-5 in NSIC games.
The opener saw Southwest Minnesota State overcome five errors and used a bases-loaded clearing double in the fourth inning to take control for a 5-3 win.
After SMSU opened with a pair of runs in the first, WSC got one run back in the second as Hunter Babe singled and scored on a Mustang error to make the score 2-1.
The Mustangs used a two-out rally in the fourth, using two singles and a walk followed by a bloop bases-loaded clearing double down the right field line to take a 5-1 lead.
The 'Cats reduced the deficit to 5-2 in the fifth on a Nick Barnett RBI single and scored the final run in the seventh as pinch runner Chase Douglas scored on a Mustang fielding error for the 5-3 final score.
SMSU had one more hit than WSC 7-6.  Freshman catcher Trey Wells was 2 for 3 with an RBI to lead the 'Cats at the plate.  Barnett, Quinn McCafferty, Babe and Carter Thomas each singled.
Corbin Kirk (0-3) suffered the pitching loss despite fanning nine batters in 4 1/3 innings of work.  Logan Walters and Jacob Kneifl each saw action in relief.
The second game saw the Mustangs score eight runs in the first three innings as SMSU completed the sweep in a 10-3 win.
Down 3-0 after two innings, WSC got on the board in the third when Colin Lynam doubled down the left field line to bring home Braden Cannon, who doubled to start the frame.
After SMSU scored five times in the third for an 8-1 lead, WSC produced two runs on RBI singles from McCafferty and Jack Jones to make the score 8-3.  The Mustangs closed the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 10-3 win.
SMSU held an 11-8 advantage in hits over the Wildcats.  Colin Lynam and Thomas each had two hits with a double for the 'Cats while Cannon also doubled.
Senior starter Ryan Obrecht (3-2) was tagged with the pitching loss in 2 2/3 innings.  Kolt Davis, Nolan Belt, Dylan Rodgers and Trey Wells all worked out of the bullpen with Belt working two hitless innings while Wells pitched a perfect final inning of relief.
Wayne State and SMSU will close out their three-game NSIC series Saturday with a nine inning game at Overin Field in Wayne starting at 12 p.m.
