The Wayne State College beach volleyball team opened play Friday morning at the AVCA Small College Beach Championships in Tavares, Florida with a 3-0 loss to #3 seed Palm Beach Atlantic. The Wildcats drop to 10-5 on the season while the Sailfish improve to 17-12.
The Wildcats' #1 pairing of
Taya Beller and
Allie Petry suffered a 21-11, 21-11 loss.
Isabelle Vacek and
Ally Beresford in the 3's duo fell 21-12, 21-9 while the #5 team of
Maggie Brahmer and
Havyn Heinz lost 21-18, 21-10.
The #2 and 4 matches were left unfinished with Wayne State's
Kelsie Cada and
Jordan McCormick holding a 1-0 set lead while the #4 pairing of
Rachel Walker and
Brooke Peltz were trailing 1-0 when the match ended with the first three victories coming from Palm Beach Atlantic.
Wayne State's next scheduled match at the AVCA Small College Beach Championships is another pool play contest Friday afternoon vs. #6 seed Texas A&M-Kingsville.
