Wayne State got a combined shutout from
Nathan Anderson and
Braden Cannon in the opener and then held off a Concordia-St. Paull rally in the second game as Cannon collected a second save in the nightcap as the Wildcats swept the Golden Bears 3-0 and 7-6 in Northern Sun Conference baseball Sunday afternoon on Senior Day at the Pete Chapman Baseball Complex in Wayne. The 'Cats are now 20-19 and 14-11 in the league while CSP is 16-19 and 12-11 in league play.
The story of the opener was the pitching of Anderson and Cannon to go with the hitting of Cannon in a 3-0 win.
Scoreless entering the fourth inning, Cannon laced a two-run single up the middle scoring
Trey Wells (walk) and
Quinn McCafferty (hit by pitch) for a 2-0 Wildcat lead.
WSC added a run in the fifth on a
Colin Lynam solo homer over the right center field wall for a 3-0 lead.
The rest of the game was controlled by Anderson and Cannon. Anderson worked 5 2/3 innings and struck out seven batters while allowing just five hits. Cannon worked the final 1 2/3 innings and fanned four batters while yielding just one hit to seal the 3-0 shutout win.
WSC had just five hits in the game. Cannon delivered a two-run single with
Colin Lynam belting a solo homer.

Hunter Babe and McCafferty each singled.
The second game saw the Wildcats build a 7-0 lead, then hold off a late Golden Bear rally in the final three innings as WSC held on for a 7-6 victory for the sweep.
Freshman
Noah Strizek connected for a three-run homer in the third inning putting the 'Cats in front 3-0. A
Colin Lynam single down the right field line made it 4-0.
Three more runs for WSC in the fifth made the score 7-0. A
Trey Wells double brought in two runs while the third was on a McCafferty sacrifice fly.
CSP then started their rally with two runs in the seventh and four more in the eighth to make the score 7-6.
Cannon got the final two outs in the eighth and then retired CSP in order in the ninth to earn his second save of the day and eighth of the season in a 7-6 win.
The Golden Bears outhit WSC 11-9 in the second game. Cannon was the lone 'Cats with multiple hits, going 2 for 2. Strizek had a three-run homer and Wells a two-run double for WSC extra base hits.
Starter
Jackson Shelburne (2-2) worked six innings to record the win, fanning six batters while allowing five hits and two runs. Cannon worked the final 1 2/3 innings to notch the save, striking out two batters while retiring all five batters faced.
The Wildcats will be at home again Wednesday hosting Augustana in a mid-week NSIC doubleheader starting at 1:30 p.m.
