Four individuals and the Wayne State College women's track and field team earned All-Academic honors announced Thursday afternoon by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association office in New Orleans, Louisiana. Seniors
Brooklynn Chipps,
Kendra Paasch and
Mckenzie Scheil along with sophomore
Reilly Young were individual recipients while the Wildcat women's team collected All-Academic Team honors for the 18
th consecutive year with a cumulative grade point average of 3.509.
To qualify for the team academic award, an institution must record a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or higher while individual award winners must maintain a 3.25 grade point average and have achieved a provisional or automatic qualifying mark for the NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championships.
Chipps, a redshirt senior from Elgin (Clearwater HS), earns the USTFCCCA All-Academic Award for a second straight year with a 3.347 grade point average majoring in family consumer science/food & nutrition. She was the NCAA Indoor National Champion in the weight throw in March with a new school record mark of 67' 11" and was the NSIC weight throw champion. During the outdoor season, Chipps earned All-American honors with a fourth-place finish in the hammer throw (197' 6") and All-NSIC in the hammer throw placing second while also finishing fifth in the shot put.
Paasch, a senior thrower from Scribner (West Point-Beemer HS), has a 3.682 grade point average majoring in life sciences and biology and is a two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic selection (2021). She posted an NCAA provisional mark in the discus during the outdoor season (152' 7") and medaled in two events at the NSIC Outdoor Championships, placing sixth in the shot put (44' 3 ¼") and hammer throw (164' 0").
Scheil (shy – ull), a graduate student from Fairmont (Fillmore Central HS), is a USTFCCCA All-Academic selection for a second straight season with a 3.614 grade point average majoring in criminal justice. She earned All-American honors during the outdoor season with a fifth-place finish in the hammer throw 195' 1" and was the NSIC hammer throw champion for a third straight season. During the indoor season, Scheil was a national qualifier in the weight throw and earned All-NSIC honors with second place finishes in the shot put (46' 6") and weight throw (59
9 ½").
Young, a redshirt sophomore from Scotia (Central Valley HS), is a first-time USTFCCCA All-Academic selection with a 3.272 grade point average majoring in K-12 Health/Physical Education. She recorded an NCAA provisional mark in the discus during the outdoor season (161' 10") and was an NCAA outdoor national qualifier.
