Wattier sets new school record in 60 hurdles - WSC men take second at MSU/Mark Schuck Open

            Sophomore Keaton Wattier set a new school record in the 60-meter hurdles while Dylan Kneifl and Logan Moeller each picked up event wins to lead Wayne State to a second-place finish at the Mark Schuck Invitational hosted by Minnesota State in Mankato, Minnesota Friday and Saturday at Myers Fieldhouse. 
            Host Minnesota State scored 325 points to win the team title followed by Wayne State with 114 and Concordia-St. Paul at 110 points.  Coe (60) and Sioux Falls (59) rounded out the top five teams in scoring with 10 teams competing.
            Wattier, a sophomore from O'Neill, ran a time of 8.19 seconds in prelims to break the previous school mark of 8.20 seconds set by Matt Kneifl in 2001.  Wattier ran 8.21 seconds in the finals to place fourth in the event.
            Dylan Kneifl scored a first-place finish in the high jump clearing 6' 7" while Pierce junior Logan Moeller placed first in the long jump with a top mark of 22' 3 ¾" to go with a third-place finish in the triple jump at 44' 11".
            Quentin Dreyer had a second-place finish in the 1,000-meter run (2:36.23) and a third-place finish in the one mile run with a time of 4:23.25.
            In the 500-meter run, sophomore Mitchell Rudie collected a second-place finish in 1:11.32 with Carter Roth right behind in third at 1:11.84.
            Three Wildcats placed in the top five in the heptathlon – Debonaire Williams third with 4,705 points, Alex Brandt fourth at 4,368 and Jarrett McQueen fifth with 4,091 points.
            Daylin Mallory recorded a fourth-place mark in the shot put (50' 6"), Braden Johnson was fifth in the long jump at 20' 8", Alex Leuenberger sixth in the 300-meter dash (36.50), Brandon Mitzel sixth in the 3,000-meter run at 9:21.25, Gabe Peitz seventh in the 800-meter run (1:58.77) and Ty Dingman eighth in the long jump at 20' 4 ½".
            The Wayne State distance medley relay team of Peitz, Austin Madsen, Andrew Wyllie and Dreyer crossed the tape first in  10:43.72 while the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Madsen, Wyatt Nissen, Rudie and Leuenberger placed second in a time of 3;28.86. 
            The Wildcats will be in action again next weekend at the Northwest Missouri State Bearcat Classic in Maryville, Missouri.
