Box Score Missouri Western scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat Wayne State 7-4 Sunday afternoon at the Washburn Invitational Softball Tournament in Topeka, Kansas. The Griffons move to 5-4 with the win while WSC drops to 1-10 on the season.
Missouri Western scored one run in the second and two in the third for a 3-0 lead.
Wayne State countered in the bottom of the third with three runs to tie the contest at 3-3. Freshman
Jordyn Rochholz had a two-run double scoring
Masyn Bunnell (double) and
Jordyn Klein (single) with
Haylee Weber adding an RBI single for the three Wildcat runs.
The Griffons regained the lead at 4-3 in the fourth with one run while Wayne State came back in the fifth to tie the contest again at 4-4 as Klein doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly by
Hayley Murphy.
But Missouri Western got a three-run homer in the top of the seventh to steal victory from the Wildcats and take a 7-4 win.
Klein had three hits and scored two runs to lead Wayne State. Rochholz added two hits with a double and run scored while Bunnell also doubled.
Callie Carraher,
Grace Lucka and
Sophie Stuart pitched in the contest for Wayne State.
The Wildcats were scheduled to close play at the Washburn Invitational against Newman (Kan.) late Sunday afternoon.
