'Cats open Arizona spring trip with 4-1 win over Benedictine Mesa

            Wayne State's beach volleyball team opened their spring break trip in Arizona Monday afternoon with a 4-1 victory over Benedictine Mesa of Arizona in a match played at Gene Autry Park in Mesa, Arizona.  The Wildcats are now 2-1 on the season while the Redhawks fall to 1-3 with the loss.
            Two Wildcat wins were by sweep as the #2 duo of Jordan McCormick and Channatee Robles won 21-18, 21-13 while the 5's pairing of Taylor Bunjer and Rhianna Wilhelm picked up a 21-18, 21-7 victory.
            The 3's and 4's matches went three sets with Wayne State coming away victorious.  The 3's pairing of Ella Myler and Brooke Peltz picked up a 21-15, 14-21, 15-11 win while the 4's pair of Brooklyn Kusler and Molly Romano rallied for a 14-21, 21-15, 15-12 win.
            Benedictine's win came in the #1 match as Wayne State's Taya Beller and Allie Petry were defeated 21-19, 21-15.
            The Wildcats play two matches Tuesday in Arizona, facing Park University Gilbert (Ariz.) at 10 a.m. Central Time followed by a match vs. Mesa Community College at 12 p.m.
