Box Score A three-run third inning for Missouri-St. Louis propelled the Tritons to a 5-1 college softball win Thursday afternoon over Wayne State College at the National Training Center Spring Games in Auburndale, Florida. Missouri-St. Louis is now 9-9 on the year with Wayne State dropping to 2-18.
The Tritons scored single runs in the first and second innings to grab a 2-0 lead.
The Wildcats put two runners on base with a pair of walks in the second with two outs but could not score.
Missouri-St. Louis came up with three runs in the bottom of the third for a 5-0 lead.
Wayne State got on the board in the top of the fifth inning thanks to a leadoff home run by catcher
Hayley Murphy.
WSC had another scoring threat in the sixth when
Annika Manzanares walked followed by a double from
Dylan Sweeney with just one out. But UMSL got out of the inning with a pair of strikeouts to keep the score 5-1.
Missouri-St. Louis had 10 hits in the game to four by Wayne State. Murphy was 2 for 3 with a homer, single and RBI.
Dylan Sweeney doubled and
Haylee Weber singled.
Junior Sami Felt recorded a complete game effort in the circle, striking out four batters.
Wayne State will play West Virginia Wesleyan and Quincy (Ill.) Friday as play continues for the Wildcats at the National Training Center Spring Games in Florida.
