Peitz wins 800-meter run for Wildcats at Dakota State Meet

            Senior Gabe Peitz won the 800-meter run to lead a partial Wayne State men's track and field team effort Tuesday afternoon and evening at the Dakota State Twilight Meet in Madison, South Dakota as the Wildcats had athletes compete in seven events.
            Host Dakota State won the team title with a score of 166 points with Southwest Minnesota State second at 114.  Briar Cliff came in third at 60 points with Wayne State fourth at 50.  Rounding out the team scores were South Dakota State with 48 points, South Dakota Mines 47, Augustana 40 and Dakota Wesleyan and Dordt with 14 each.
            Peitz led a 1-2-3 sweep in the 800-meter run for the Wildcats crossing the line first in 1:55.35.  Quentin Dreyer came in second at 1:57.22 and Andrew Wyllie was third in 1:59.01.
            Other running events saw Brandon Mitzel finish third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:38.24) and Brady Franzen was fourth in the 5,000-meter run at 16:19.21.
            Freshman J'Dyn Bullion had the top Wildcat finish in field events placing fourth in the discus with a top mark of 155' 3" while freshman Jaxson Ninete was fourth in the hammer throw (165' 8") and eighth in the discus (143' '4").
            Matthew Logue recorded a fifth-place mark in the javelin at 148' 11".
            Wayne State will compete again Wednesday afternoon and evening at the Mount Marty Twilight Meet in Yankton.
