Kelsey Larsen took first place in the 5,000-meter run for the Wayne State women's track and field team Tuesday afternoon and evening at the Dakota State Twilight Meet held in Madison, South Dakota. As a team, Wayne State placed fourth out of 10 teams with 77 points.
Southwest Minnesota State topped host Dakota State 113-93 for the team title with Augustana third at 88 points. Wayne State came in fourth at 77 points followed by Briar Cliff (58), South Dakota State (37), Dordt (21), Dakota Wesleyan (14) and South Dakota Mines (2).
Larsen's winning time in the 5,000-meter run was 19:32.80. Wildcat teammates
Sydney Escritt came in second at 19:55.89,
Madeline Kunz third in 20:19.19 and
Maelee Beacom sixth in a time of 21:37.09.
In the 800-meter run, freshman
Callie Kirchner took third at 2:19.21,
Kylie Pachta finished fifth with a time of 2:20.87 and
Alison Stineman placed eighth at 2:23.86.
In field events,
Reilly Young posted a second-place mark in the discus at 139' 8" with
Torrance Tso seventh (119' 4").
Hailey Baker recorded a second-place finish in the hammer throw at 164' 5",
Olivia Schwarzrock was sixth at 152' 7" and
McKenna Markle came in seventh with a mark of 152' 4".
The Wildcats had four of the top eight finishers in the shot put with Wayne freshman
Brooklyn Kruse leading the way in third place with a mark of 44' 1 ½". Schwarzrock was next in fourth at 42' 9", Markle fifth with a throw of 41' 1 ½" and
Brooke Languis eighth at 39' 5".
Wayne State will compete again Wednesday afternoon and evening at the Mount Marty Twilight Meet in Yankton with field events at 11 a.m. and running events starting at 4 p.m.
