Fueled by a third place finish from senior
Abbigail Brodersen, the Wayne State College women's golf team finished in third place out of 11 teams at the two-day Golden Bear Fall Brawl held Monday and Tuesday at the Troy Burne Golf Course in Hudson, Wisconsin. The Wildcats shot the top score on the second day of the tournament – 318 – and carded a 36-hole team score of 643 (325-318).
Sioux Falls edged Winona State 634-640 for the team title with Wayne State third at 643. Minnesota State was fourth at 655 followed by Southwest Minnesota State (658) and host Concordia-St. Paul sixth at 660. Other team scores included Minnesota Crookston (668), Minot State (673), Minnesota State B (679), Upper Iowa (703) and Bemidji State (718).
Brodersen, a senior from Albion (Boone Central HS), shot rounds of 78 and 77 for 155 to place third overall out of 67 players. Freshman
Camryn Johnson (Broken Bow HS) was next for the Wildcats tied for 11
th at 161 after firing scores of 84 and 77.
Junior
Saffire Sayre tied for 13
th overall with rounds of 81 and 82 (163), sophomore
Hailey Kenkel recorded scores of 84 and 82 for 166 to tie for 21
st and sophomore
Erica Lee tied for 25
th with a 167 after shooting 82 and 85. Junior
Meg Thompson played as an individual and turned in rounds of 90 and 90 for 180.
Wayne State competes next on Monday and Tuesday, September 23 and 24
th at the MIAA Fall Preview in Kearney.
