The Wayne State women's golf team battled cold, rainy conditions and held off a charge from Augustana and several other teams to defend their title at the Sioux Falls Invitational played Monday and Tuesday at Grand Falls Casino and Golf Resort in Larchwood, Iowa. It was the second straight tournament win for the Wildcats this season after winning the Nebraska Intercollegiate Invitational last week.
Wayne State finished the 36-hole, two-day event with a team score of 638 shooting rounds of 311 and 327. Augustana was three strokes back in second at 641 (321-320) with Minnesota Crookston taking third at 645 shooting 319 and 326. First round leader Winona State was fourth at 646 (307-339) with Minnesota State taking fifth in the 13-team field at 650 (316-334).
Grand Island junior
Hailey Kenkel was the top Wildcat finisher, taking third overall in a field of 71 players shooting a 154 with rounds of 74 (+2) and 80 during Tuesday's rainy conditions. Millard North junior
Erica Lee also had a top 10 finish, tied for eighth overall with a 160 after posting scores of 81 and 79.
Senior
Saffire Sayre tied for 17
th overall with a 164 (75-89) followed by senior
Meg Thompson who tied for 24
th overall at 167 carding rounds of 86 and 81. Broken Bow sophomore
Camryn Johnson rounded out Wayne State's scoring with a 168, tied for 27
th, after shooting scores of 81 and 87.
WSC had two other players post scores as individuals with
Kylie Powers coming in at 181 (89-92) to tie for 50
th overall while junior
Olivia Ottman was 63
rd overall with back-to-back rounds of 96 to post a two-day total of 192.
The Wildcats conclude the fall portion of their 2025-26 women's golf schedule playing in the Missouri Western Regional Preview next Monday and Tuesday, October 20 and 21, in St. Joseph, Missouri.
