Jes Krcil was announced as the Northern Sun Conference Football Defensive Player of the Week Monday morning following his play in Saturday's 35-20 upset victory over #9 Minnesota State. It's the first time the graduate of Carlisle High School in Iowa has earned NSIC Player of the Week honors.
Krcil recorded a game-high 14 tackles with 05 tackles for loss for one yard leading a WSC defense that limited the Mavericks to just 302 yards of offense. He was credited with six solo and eight assisted tackles in the win.
For the season, Krcil leads the Wayne State defense and ranks second in the NSIC with 81 total tackles. He is first in the league with 12.0 tackles for loss for 51 yads and tied for third in sacks (4.5-33 yds) and forced fumbles with two.
Wayne State is 4-4 overall and 2-1 in the NSIC South following Saturday's win. The Wildcats travel to Concordia-St. Paul Saturday for an NSIC South Division contest starting at 12 p.m.
