The Wayne State College beach volleyball team lost a 3-0 decision to Carson-Newman University of Tennessee Friday afternoon to close out Challenge Round play at the AVCA Small College Beach Championships in Gulf Shores, Alabama. The #12 seeded Wildcats drop to 14-5 on the year while the 9th-seeded Eagles improve to 25-6 following the victory.
The 1's match featuring Wayne State's
Taylor Bunjer and
Ava Spies went extra points in the first set with the 'Cats falling 24-22 followed by a 21-14 setback in the second.
The #5 pairing of
Brooke Peltz and
Rhianna Wilhelm were edged 21-19 in the opening set followed by a 21-13 loss in the second set. The other final result came from the 4s duo as
Reese Johnson and
Ella Myler were defeated by scores of 21-14, 21-14.
Wayne State advances to the Silver bracket on the final day of the AVCA Small College Beach Championships and will face Eckerd College of Florida Saturday morning at 9:50 a.m.
