Stancikova named All-NSIC First Team - Brodersen and Johnson tabbed Second Team in women's golf

            The Wayne State College women's golf team landed three players on the 2024-25 Northern Sun Conference Women's Golf All-Conference Team announced Wednesday morning by the league office in Burnsville, Minnesota.  Freshman Gaia Stancikova became the first player since the re-instatement of the Wildcat women's golf program in 2020-21 to earn All-NSIC First Team honors while senior Abbigail Brodersen and freshman Camryn Johnson both received Second Team honors.
            Stancikova, from Castel San Pietro Terme, Italy, set a new single season scoring average for the Wildcat this season with a 77.38 in 16 rounds of golf and seven events.  The old school record scoring average was 78.00 held by Jazmine Taylor in the 2022-23 season.  Stancikova had two top-five and three top-10 finishes this season and shot 13 of her 16 rounds this season in the 70's.  She fired a season-best even-par 72 leading to a third-place finish at the NSIC Preview in Missouri March 31 and April 1 and shot rounds of 78 and 72 (+2) for a 150 and another third-place medal at the Vegas Warrior Invitational March 14-15.  Stancikova was sixth overall at the NSIC Championships April 25-27 in Missouri with rounds of 78-75-79 for a 54-hole score of 232. 
            Brodersen, a senior from Albion (Boone Central HS), earned All-NSIC Second Team honors for the second time in her Wildcat career (2023 as a sophomore).  She played in all 12 events and 26 rounds this season and finished with a scoring average of 79.62, the fifth-best in school history.  Brodersen posted four top-five finishes and had 12 rounds of scores in the 70's.  She fired a season-best 147 (72-75) to place second at the Vegas Warrior Invitational March 14-15 and had another second-place finish at the Sioux Falls Invitational (October 14-15) with rounds of 73 and 78 for 151.  Brodersen also finished third at the Fall Brawl in Hudson, Wisconsin (September 16-17) shooting 155 (78-77).  She was also awarded this year's NSIC Elite 18 Award in women's golf as the top scholar-athlete at a conference championship event with a 4.00 grade point average majoring in industrial technology/ drafting and design/ construction management.
            Johnson, a freshman from Berwyn (Broken Bow HS), was an All-NSIC Second Team selection following a standout freshman campaign with the Wildcats.  She finished with a scoring average of 78.38 – third-best in school history – and had 15 rounds in the 70's while posting two top-five and four top-10 finishes for the 'Cats this season.  She became the first Wildcat player in school history to shoot an 18-hole score under par, firing a one-under 71 March 31st at the NSIC Preview in Missouri.  Johnson had a season-best third-place finish at the Nebraska Intercollegiate Invite October 4-5 shooting 153 (79-74).  She tied for fifth at the Sioux Falls Invitational October 14-15 with scores of 77 and 79 (156) and recorded an eighth-place finish at the Vegas Warrior Invitational March 14-15 with a 157 (84-73).
            Wayne State made school history this season by qualifying for the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships, finishing 16th at the Central Region Championships in Edmond, Oklahoma.  The Wildcats had three tournament wins this season while establishing a new single season team scoring average of 313.12, 6.5 shots better than the previous school record (319.62 in 2022-23), and finished third at the Northern Sun Conference Championships.
