The Wayne State College men's track and field team received two of five post season awards announced by the Northern Sun Conference Thursday morning as freshman sprinter
Emmanuel Badejo was voted NSIC Men's Newcomer of the Year while assistant coach Travis Kamm was named NSIC Men's Assistant Coach of the Year for the second time in the last three years.
           Badejo, from Ijebu Ode, Nigeria, was the NSIC champion in the 400-meter dash at last weekend's NSIC Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a new NSIC Meet Record time of 46.58 seconds. He also anchored the first-place 4 x 100-meter relay team in 40.70 seconds and earned All-NSIC honors with a second-place finish in the 4 x 400-meter relay team that set a new school record with a time of 3:12.73.Â
           This season, Badejo has been a part of school records in five events – 100, 200 and 400-meter dashes along with two sprint relays. He is an NCAA national qualifier in the 400-meter dash and will compete at the NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships next Thursday (May 22
nd) in the 400-meter dash prelims at 6:55 p.m. Central Time with the 11
th-fastest time in NCAA Division II at 46.39 seconds set at the USD Tune-Up Meet May 3
rd.
           Kamm was voted NSIC Men's Assistant Coach of the Year for the second time in three seasons (2023) after helping coach the Wildcats to a fourth-place finish this season, the best for WSC since 2018. Kamm coached student-athletes that scored 46 of the team's 81 points including two NSIC champions – 400-meter dash
