Five Wildcats named to CSC Men's Track & Field Academic All-District Team

            The Wayne State College men's track and field team saw five athletes named to the 2024-25 Academic All-District Team released Tuesday morning and selected by College Sports Communicators.  Senior Alex Brandt earned Academic All-District honors for a third straight season while seniors Quentin Dreyer and Wyatt Nissen, junior Jake Peitz and sophomore Jaxson Ninete were first-time honorees.  Dreyer also advanced to the Academic All-American ballot with honorees for first, second and third team to be announced July 16. 
            The College Sports Communicators Academic All-America program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the track, in the field and in the classroom.  Eligible nominees must maintain a minimum 3.50 grade point average and post a performance in the top 50 of his/her event in the Central Region.
            Brandt, a senior from Grand Island (Northwest HS), maintained a 3.96 grade point average majoring in business/finance and mathematics.  He placed eighth in the decathlon at the NSIC Outdoor Championships with 5,646 points and earned the NSIC Myles Brand All-Academic With Distinction Award.  Brandt ranked 29th in the NCAA Central Region in the decathlon and was 33rd during the indoor season in the heptathlon.
            Dreyer, a senior from Manning, Iowa (Des Moines Area CC), carried a 4.00 grade point average this year majoring in skilled and technical sciences education.  During the outdoor season, he placed seventh in the 1,500-meter run with a career-best time of 3:53.93.  Dreyer scored points in two events during the indoor season, finishing sixth in the 1,000-meter run (2:32.76) and seventh in the one mile run (4:16.90) and earned the NSIC Elite 18 Award as the top scholar athlete at a conference championship event. 
            Nissen, a senior from Albion (Boone Central HS), recorded a 3.76 grade point average while majoring in sport management.  He earned All-NSIC honors running legs on two relays at the NSIC Outdoor Championships – the first place 4 x 100-meter relay team and the second-place 4 x 400-meter relay team that set a new school record with a time of 3:12.73 at the conference meet.  Nissen also finished 11th in the 200-meter dash and had an NCAA provisional mark of 21.09 seconds in the 200-meter dash at the South Dakota Challenge (4/12/25).
            Peitz, a junior from Hartington (Hartington-Newcastle HS), had a 3.55 grade point average majoring in family consumer science/foods and nutrition.  He earned a sixth-place medal in the hammer throw at the NSIC Outdoor Championships with a mark of 172' 0" and ranked 17th in the NCAA Central Region.  Peitz also ranked in the top 50 in the discus and shot put during the outdoor season.
            Ninete, a sophomore from Elkhorn (Elkhorn HS), produced a 3.95 grade point average majoring in history this season.  He recorded a fourth-place finish in the hammer throw (187' 9") at the NSIC Outdoor Championships and ranked 10th in the Central Region in the event.  Ninete also had top 50 marks in the discus and ranked 15th in the Central Region during the indoor season in the weight throw.
