Brown hits NCAA provisional mark in high jump at WSC Wildcat Opener

            Junior Cain Brown made an impressive debut for Wayne State men's indoor track and field Friday afternoon and evening by winning the high jump with an NCAA provisional mark of 6' 10 ¾" to lead the Wildcats at the WSC Wildcat Opener held at Dr. Ron Holt Track in the Wildcat Dome.  It was one of three event wins for the Wildcats.  The event drew teams from Briar Cliff, Morningside, Mount Marty, Northwestern, Sioux Falls and host Wayne State.
            Brown, a transfer from Iowa Western Community College, cleared 6' 10 ¾" to post an easy win for the Wildcats in the event.  Other event winners were junior Devon Schultz in the pole vault as the Wisner native and Buena Vista transfer cleared 15' 3" for the win. 
            Stanton sophomore Mitchell Hupp captured the other event win crossing the tape first in the 60-meter dash in 6.92 seconds to go with a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash at 21.70 seconds.
            Other second-place finishers for WSC were Osman Saeed in the 400-meter dash (49.47), Akron Jostand in the 1,000-meter run at 2:41.63 and Jaxson Ninete in the weight throw (58' ¼").
            WSC had five other top finishers in the weight throw with Samuel Zazueta taking third (57' 10 ¼"), Alex Altman fourth at 55' 0", Jake Peitz fifth (54' 2 ¾"), Matthew Logue sixth at 49' 11 ¾" and Joshua Olesen seventh (49' ¼").  Peitz also had a seventh-place mark in the shot put at 44' 11 ½".
            Third-place finishers included Tragon Timm in the 60-meter dash (7.03), Alex Leuenberger in the 200-meter dash (22.14), Keaton Bowker in the 800-meter run (2:00.53), William Keller in the one mile run (4:38.05) and Elliott Nottlemann in the long jump at 21' 2"
            Ethan Walters took fourth in the 600-meter run at 1:24.89, Gannon Walsh was fourth in the 1,000-meter run (2:43.95) and Bryce Larsen took fourth in the triple jump (44' 1 ¼").
            In the one-mile run, Jacob Greving placed fourth (4:39.09) followed by Matt Richardson (4;43.68), Brady Franzen (4:44.38) and Drew Martin (4:51.29). 
            Freshman Lucas Frazier was fifth in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 15:59.84, Ty Dingman sixth in the long jump (20' 5 ¾") and Luke Klabenes sixth in the 200-meter dash (22.52). 
            The 4 x 400-meter relay team of Leuenberger, Henry Hushka, Mitchell Rudie and Saeed came in third place at 3:23.31. 
            Wayne State resumes the indoor track and field season on Saturday, January 17th at the Mount Marty Invite in Yankton, South Dakota.
