WSC opens Midwest College Classic with big win over Quincy

Box Score             Wayne State scored at least three runs in the first four innings enroute to a 15-2 win over the Quincy University Hawks Thursday night at the Midwest College Softball Classic played in Shawnee, Kansas at the Mid-America Sports Complex.  The Wildcats improve to 9-1 on the year while Quincy falls to 2-12.
            The 'Cats started quickly scoring five runs in the first inning as Emilee Marth connected on a three-run homer to start the scoring while first baseman Taylor Fritz followed with a two-run single to get WSC off to a fast start.
            After Quincy scored once in the bottom of the first, WSC came up with three more runs in the second for an 8-1 lead.  Marth doubled and Kennadi Borngrebe walked with Taylor Coleman blasting a three-run homer to left center to give the 'Cats a sizeable lead.
            WSC added three more runs in the third Leah Chance laced a two-run double followed by an RBI double from Maddie Scobee for an 11-1 lead.
            Another three runs were scored by the 'Cats in the fourth making the score 14-1.  Lillie Timm and Mattingly Barnes walked with both scoring on a three-run homer from Masyn Bunnell.
            Quincy scored their final run in the fourth, making the score 14-2.
            WSC closed their scoring with one run in the fifth as Marth walked and later scored on a Haylee Weber double for a 15-2 Wildcat win.
            Wayne State had 10 hits in the win, led by Marth going 2 for 3 with a homer and double, three RBI and three runs scored.
            Chance also went 2 for 3 with a double and two runs scored.  Bunnell and Coleman both homered and recorded three RBI in the win while Scobee and Weber each doubled.
            Junior pitcher Jadeyn Stahr picked up the win in the circle, now 3-0 on the year.  She allowed just one run on two hits over three innings with four strikeouts and two walks.  Freshman Jordan Brustuen worked the final two innings and gave up one run on one hit with three walks. 
            The Wildcats will play two games Friday at the Midwest College Classic, battling Southwest Baptist at 2:30 p.m. and Maryville (Mo.) in a 4:45 p.m. contest.
