3/10/2026 3:08:00 PM

Box Score             Grand Valley State edged Wayne State 2-1 in eight innings Tuesday afternoon at the Spring Games Softball Invitational played in Bartow, Florida.  The Lakers improve to 8-8 on the season while the Wildcats drop to 17-4.
The game was a low-scoring contest, featuring just three combined runs and seven hits between the two teams.
Grand Valley State used a double and single in the third inning to score the first run of the game, giving the Lakers a 1-0 advantage.
The score remained 1-0 until the bottom of the sixth when junior outfielder Emilee Marth delivered a two-out solo home run, just the second Wayne State hit of the contest, to even the score at 1-1.
The contest went into extra innings with the international tie breaker in place putting a runner at second base.
Grand Valley State advanced their runner to third on a sacrifice bunt and with two outs scored on a Wildcat error to put the Lakers in front 2-1.
Wayne State was unable to advance their runner in the bottom of the eighth and the Wildcats fell by a 2-1 score.
Grand Valley State had four hits in the game to three by the Wildcats.  Marth had a solo homer in the sixth.  Jordyn Klein added a double while Lillie Timm had an infield single in the seventh.
The hard-luck losing pitcher in the contest was redshirt sophomore starter Kennadi Borngrebe, who worked her seventh complete game of the season in nine starts.  She allowed just four hits and two runs (one earned) with six strikeouts and three walks and now has a record of 6-3 on the season.
Wayne State was slated to play Clarion (Pa.) in another game at the Spring Games Tournament Tuesday afternoon.
