Box Score 2 Wayne State softball dropped a pair of close games at #23 Winona State Friday afternoon in Northern Sun Conference softball played in Winona, Minnesota by scores of 4-2 and 5-4. WSC is now 30-10 overall and 10-6 in the NSIC while the host Warriors remain in first place in the league at 35-6 on the season and 14-2 in league games.
The opener saw WSC take an early 2-0 lead but the Warriors rallied with two runs in the fifth and sixth innings to record a 4-2 victory.
The 'Cats scored both runs in the third without a hit, benefitting from five walks to score a pair of runs as
Taylor Coleman and
Reagan Dreibelbis each had bases loaded walks.
But Winona State battled back with two runs in the fifth and sixth frames for the 4-2 win.
Wayne State held a 5-4 edge in hits over the Warriors.
Lillie Timm had a pair of doubles while
Jordyn Rochholz and
Maddie Scobee each had singles.
Coleman (11-3) suffered the pitching loss, allowing four hits and three runs over five innings of work.
Jadeyn Stahr pitched one inning of relief.
The second game saw WSC build early leads of 3-0 and 4-2, but the Warriors produced three runs in the fourth inning to come back for a 5-4 win and sweep of the Wildcats.
Wayne State had a three-run first inning on five hits. Coleman and Dreibelbis each posted run-scoring singles.
After Winona scored one in the first and another in the third, WSC grabbed a 4-2 lead on a fourth inning solo homer from Rochholz.
Winona State then responded with three runs in the fourth and held on for the 5-4 win.
Wayne State had nine hits in the contest, led by
Emilee Marth and Scobee each going 2 for 4 with a run scored. Rochholz added a homer while
Leah Chance, Coleman and
Kennadi Borngrebe each singled.
Borngrebe (11-6) was tagged with the pitching loss, firing a complete game. She was charged with five runs (four earned) on eight hits with seven strikeouts and one walk.
Wayne State will play at Minnesota State Saturday at 12 and 2 p.m.
