Wayne State College battled Eckerd College of Florida before suffering a 3-1 loss Saturday afternoon in the third match of pool play for the Wildcats at the AVCA Small College Beach Championships in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Eckerd improves to 21-15 on the year with the win while WSC drops to 10-7.
The Wildcat victory came from the 3's pairing of Resse Johnson and
Mattie Kamery, who edged Eckerd's Ella Kloepper and Teagan VanDerney 21-19, 22-20. The Wildcat 2s team of
Channatee Robles and
Chloe Hanel were ahead in the third set but Eckerd posted three wins in straight sets to become the first team to three wins and take the match.
The 4s duo of
Ella Myler and
Molly Romano were edged by Marti Boser and Emma Samuelson of Eckerd 21-19, 22-20. The #1 pairing of
Taylor Bunjer and
Anna Borner lost 21-17, 21-14 to Madison Hardbarger and Anna Jupin from Eckerd and the 5s team of
Mia Berg and
Delaney Miller suffered a 21-11, 21-10 setback to Jessi Meghreblian and Addie White.
Wayne State closes out pool play later Saturday at the AVCA Small College Beach Championships facing Southwest Baptist (Mo.) at 3:35 p.m. in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
