Junior thrower
Jaxson Ninete won the hammer throw with an NCAA provisional mark and junior
Devon Schultz set a new school record in the pole vault with an NCAA provisional mark to lead the Wayne State College men's track and field team Sunday at the Loper Invite held in Kearney. The meet attracted teams from Bellevue, Emporia State, Fort Hays State, Iowa Western Community College, Midland, host Nebraska-Kearney, Nebraska Wesleyan and Wayne State.
Ninete led a group of WSC throwers that had five of the top eight finishes in the hammer throw, posting an improved NCAA provisional mark of 199' 11" to take first place.
Samuel Zazueta was fifth at 185' 3",
Jake Peitz sixth (178' 9"),
Alex Altman seventh with a mark of 178' 0" and
Matthew Logue eighth at 171' 11".
Schultz had a second-place finish in the pole vault setting a new school record clearing 16' 3 ¼", an NCAA provisional mark. The old school record was 15' 7 ¼" held by Josh Spenner and set on May 6, 2017.
Freshman
Bryce Larsen had a second-place finish in the triple jump with a top leap of 47' 1" while
J'Dyn Bullion was second in the discus at 169' 4" with Ninete right behind in third at 165' 5".
Brady Franzen was third in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 16:02.46,
Braylon Chism had a third-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles at 54.34 seconds while
Joe Dewald was fifth in 55.05 seconds.
In the 400-meter dash,
Osman Saeed was fourth in 48.32 seconds with
Alex Leuenberger fifth at 48.47.
The Wildcat 4 x 100-meter relay team of
Alex Leuenberger,
Luke Klabenes,
Mitchell Hupp and
Tragon Timm finished second in a time of 41.28 seconds.
Wayne State's next meet is Wednesday when the Wildcats travel to Yankton to compete at the Mount Marty Twilight Invitational.
