Sophomore thrower
McKinley Grover recorded an NCAA provisional mark winning the discus at 170' 7" to lead the Wayne State women's track and field team Wednesday evening at the Mount Marty Twilight Meet held in Yankton. The meet saw teams from Augustana, Briar Cliff, Dakota State, Dordt, Monringside, Mount Marty, Northern State, Northwestern, Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Wayne State compete.
Grover's winning mark of 170' 7" now ranks as the top throw in the NSIC and is fifth-best in NCAA Division II.
Wayne State's other event win came from sophomore Allie Czapla in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a winning time of 12:25.76.
In the hammer throw,
Taylor Arp took second at 178' 9",
Jalecia Williams was third (167' 6") and
Olivia Schwarzrock eighth (155' 11"). Schwarzrock and Williams were third and fourth in the shot put respectively with marks of 44' 2 ½" and 43' 10 ½".
Jerika Bakenhus had a second-place finish in the high jump clearing 5' 2 ½" and
Jozlyn Barnes was third in the 800-meter run at 2:29.92 with Czapla taking sixth in 2:34.99.
A number of Wayne State athletes will be competing in the Drake Relays at Des Moines, Iowa Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
