Box Score             Wayne State softball split a Northern Sun Conference softball doubleheader against St. Cloud State Friday at Dr. Ron Holt Field in the Wildcat Dome as the Wildcats collected a 4-1 win in the opener followed by a 9-2 setback to the Huskies in the second game.  WSC is now 27-7 and 7-3 in the league while SCSU is now 26-10 and 8-2 in the NSIC.
The first game saw junior Taylor Coleman fire six innings of one-run ball and drove in the go-ahead runs with a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth while junior shortstop Lillie Timm went 2 for 3 with a solo homer and RBI single to lead the Wildcats to a 4-1 win over the Huskies.
WSC opened the scoring in the bottom of the third with a solo homer down the left field line by Timm putting the 'Cats in front 1-0.
SCSU tied the score in the top of the fourth with a solo blast to knot the score at 1-1 and the game remained tied until Wayne State scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Leah Chance and Emilee Marth walked to open the sixth.  Maddie Scobee singled to center field to load the bases and Coleman followed with a two-run single up the middle putting the 'Cats in front 3-1.  Timm then delivered a run-scoring single to left field scoring Scobee giving the 'Cats a 4-1 lead.
St. Cloud State threatened to rally in the seventh getting the first two runners on base via walks, but reliever Jadeyn Stahr came on in relief and got out of the jam without any runs scoring to preserve the 4-1 win.
Both teams had six hits in the contest.  Timm had a homer, single and drove in two runs going 2 for 3 while Jordyn Rochholz was 2 for 3 with a double.  Coleman had a two-run single while Scobee had the other Wildcat hit, a single.
Coleman (9-2) fired six strong innings for the win in the circle, allowing one run on six hits with seven strikeouts and four walks.  Stahr worked the final inning to notch her first save of the year, retiring all three batters.
The second game saw St. Cloud State make numerous outstanding plays on defense while collecting 10 hits to post a 9-2 win and gain a split of the doubleheader.
Both teams opened with two runs in the first inning.  WSC scored their two runs when Jordyn Klein opened the game with a single and later scored on a Husky throwing error while Chance walked and scored on a fielder's choice by Scobee.
St. Cloud State then held WSC scoreless the rest of the game.  The Huskies scored two runs in the second and fifth and added three more runs in the seventh for the 9-2 win.
The Huskies held a 10-7 edge in hits over the 'Cats.  Klein went 2 for 3 with a pair of singles and run scored with Rochholz adding two singles.  Chance, Scobee and Marth also singled for the Wildcats.
Starting pitcher Kennadi Borngrebe suffered the pitching loss, now 10-4 on the year.  She worked five innings and gave up six runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts and three walks.  Stahr pitched the final two innings and yielded three runs on three hits.
