Sophomore
Gaia Stancikova was named NSIC Women's Golfer of the Week Wednesday morning following her play at the Spring Region Preview earlier this week in Monkey Island, Oklahoma.
           A sophomore from Castel San Pietro Terme, Italy, Stancikova shot a 5-over par 221 to finish tied for ninth overall in a field of 90 players while setting a new school record for a 54-hole event. She opened the tournament with an even-par 72 Sunday followed by a three-over par 75 Monday and a two-over par 74 Tuesday.Â
           Stancikova bettered the previous school record of 222 set last year by
Erica Lee at the NCAA Central Region Championship in Edmond, Oklahoma. She helped Wayne State to an eighth-place team finish in a field of 17 teams including beating several teams that were ranked ahead of the Wildcats in the latest NCAA Central Region Rankings.
           Wayne State's next meet is Monday and Tuesday, April 13 and 14
th, hosting the Wildcat Classic at the Wayne Country Club.
