Wayne State had four athletes qualify for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Emporia State in Kansas May 21-22. The NCAA announced the list of qualifiers late Tuesday afternoon.
Junior
Jaxson Ninete and sophomore
Samuel Zazueta will compete in the hammer throw on Thursday, May 21
st at 12:30 p.m. Ninete, a graduate of Elkhorn HS, had a season-best mark of 204' 2" at the Tim Marshall Open in Mankato, Minnesota May 2
nd and is ranked 20
th out of 22 qualifiers. He captured the NSIC title in the hammer throw last weekend at the NSIC Championships in Duluth, Minnesota with a top throw of 191' 8".
Zazueta, a graduate of Norfolk HS, is ranked 18
th in NCAA Division II in the hammer throw thanks to a season-best toss of 204' 9" at the Tim Marshall Open in Mankato May 2
nd. He earned All-NSIC honors with a third-place finish in the hammer throw at last weekend's NSIC Championships in Duluth throwing 190' 9".
J'Dyn Bullion, a junior from Bellevue West HS, is a national qualifier for the first time in the discus following a season-best throw of 177' 6" at the Wildcat Classic March 29
th. He ranks 16
th in NCAA Division II and will compete in the discus on Friday, May 22 at 1:30 p.m. Bullion is coming off a third-place finish in the discus at the NSIC Championships in Duluth earning All-NSIC honors with a throw of 164' 2".
Cain Brown, a junior from Williamsburg, Iowa (Iowa Western CC), is a national qualifier in the high jump and will compete on Friday, May 22 at 3:30 p.m. He cleared a season-best 6' 10 ¾" on April 3
rd at the Emporia State Midwest Classic and is ranked 21
st nationally in a field of 22 qualifiers. Brown was an All-NSIC finisher at the NSIC Championships in Duluth placing third clearing 6' 8 ¾".
