Game 1 - Wayne State 7 Concordia-St. Paul 3

Game 2 - Wayne State 6 Concordia-St. Paul 4

The Wayne State College baseball team got complete game efforts from Austen Wisroth and Tadd Johansen Friday afternoon to lift the Wildcats in a 7-3 and 6-4 Northern Sun Conference sweep at Concordia-St. Paul. Wayne State is now 16-16 overall and 9-9 in the Northern Sun Conference while the Golden Bears fall to 14-9 on the season and 8-6 in league play.

In the opener, junior designated hitter Patrick Burkhart went 4 for 5 with two RBI's while junior starter Austen Wisroth fired a complete game to boost the Wildcats in a 7-3 win over the Golden Bears.  WSC opened the scoring in the second inning with a single run as Braulio Acosta tripled to center field and scored on a Luke Farrar single to put the 'Cats up early.  Concordia-St. Paul scored twice in the bottom of the third to grab a 2-1 lead, but WSC came right back in the top of the fourth inning to plate three runs for a 4-2 Wildcat lead.  WSC used an RBI single from Burkhart and an RBI groundout from Justin Beranek, coupled with two Concordia errors, to score the three runs.

The Golden Bears trimmed the WSC lead to 4-3 in the fourth inning with one run, but the 'Cats scored two runs in the sixth and another in the seventh to make the final score 7-3.  Nick Bidroski's two-run double scored Travis Parsons and Mike Bisenius in the sixth inning while Burkhart produced another RBI single in the seventh that scored Jake Ritzdorf, who singled to open the inning.

WSC had 12 hits in the first game to just seven for Concordia-St. Paul.  Burkhart led the 'Cats at the plate with his 4 for 5 effort.  Ritzdorf and Acosta each finished 2 for 3 with two runs scored while Bidroski was 2 for 4 with two RBI's.  Austen Wisroth (4-4) earned the complete game win, charged with three runs on seven hits over seven innings with six strikeouts and four walks.

The second game saw the Wildcats rally with a four-run seventh inning to support the complete game effort from sophomore left hander Tadd Johansen as WSC completed the sweep with a 6-4 win over the Golden Bears.  WSC opened the scoring in the first inning as Burkhart reached on an error to start the game and came around to score on a wild pitch for a 1-0 Wildcat advantage.  The 'Cats took a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning when Luke Farrar led off with a single and later scored on a Justin Beranek single.  However, the Golden Bears tied the score with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and took the lead with two more in the sixth making the score 4-2.

Wayne State then came up with their big inning in the seventh, scoring four runs on three hits and one Concordia-St. Paul error to regain momentum in the game.  Acosta singled and walks to Burkhart and Beranek loaded the bases for the Wildcats.  A Mike Bisenius single through the right side evened the score at 4-4.  WSC took the lead at 5-4 on a Travis Parsons RBI groundout that scored Beranek and then Nick Bidroski banged a double to left field scoring Bisenius for a 6-4 lead.

Concordia-St. Paul had one more hit than WSC 8-7.  Seven different players had hits for the Wildcats with doubles coming from Nick Bidroski and Slade Bolles.  Johansen (4-3) pitched all nine innings to earn the complete game win, giving up four runs on eight hits with six strikeouts and two walks.

Wayne State will conclude their 10-game, seven day road trip with another doubleheader at Concordia-St. Paul Saturday beginning at 12:00 p.m.
