WSC softball dominates in pair of 11-0 wins at St. Cloud State

            Juniors Kaiti Williams and Jordan King had big days at the plate while fellow juniors Sara Scheffert and Kelcie Bormann were stellar in the pitching circle to lead the Wayne State College softball team in a pair of 11-0 wins at St. Cloud State Sunday afternoon in Northern Sun Conference play at Selke Field in St. Cloud, Minnesota.  The Wildcats maintain second place in the NSIC standings at 15-2 in league play and 29-10 overall while the host Huskies drop to 8-22-1 and 2-11-1 in the NSIC.
            In the first game, junior left fielder Kaiti Williams was 4 for 4 with a homer and four RBI's while junior Sara Scheffert whirled a shutout with five strikeouts to lead the Wildcats in an 11-0 win. 
            WSC scored one run in the second, three in the third, two in the fourth and put the game out of reach with a five-run seventh inning.
            The three-run third was capped by Monique Alyea's three run double.  Kaiti Williams hit a two-run homer in the fourth while the seventh inning was highlighted by two-run singles by Jordan King and Kaiti Williams and a Megan Hagemann RBI double.
            WSC had 12 hits in the game, led by Williams going 4 for 4 with a homer and 4 RBI.  Monique Alyea was 2 for 3 with a double and three RBI followed by King and Hagemann each going 2 for 4 with Hagemann scoring three runs.
            Sara Scheffert (13-7) had another stellar pitching performance for the Wildcats, working all seven innings and allowing just seven hits and no runs with five strikeouts.
            The second game saw Jordan King go 5 for 5 while Kelcie Bormann fired a one-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts to power the Wildcats in another 11-0 win over the Huskies.
            WSC was consistent offensively, scoring single runs in the first and fourth innings, three in the fifth, two in the sixth and four more in the seventh. 
            The fifth inning saw Kaiti Williams produce a two-run double with King adding an RBI single.  In the sixth, Kylee Simpson and King each had RBI singles while the seventh inning saw Simpson's two-run triple as the big hit followed by another Jordan King run-scoring single.
            Bormann (16-2) was superb in the circle, allowing just sixth inning single as the lone SCSU hit in the game while striking out 10 batters in the win.
            Wayne State is scheduled to host the University of Sioux Falls on Tuesday in the annual Fill the Hill/Strikeout Cancer Game at the Pete Chapman Softball Complex starting at 2 p.m.
