The Wayne State College softball team ran into the hottest team in the NSIC Tuesday afternoon as the #25 Winona State Warriors extended their win streak to 16 games with 5-1 and 3-2 wins over the Wildcats at Alumni Field in Winona, Minnesota.  Winona State is now 19-3 in the league and 36-6 overall while WSC falls to 18-6 and 32-14.
The opener saw the Wildcats drop a 5-1 decision to the Warriors.  WSC scored its lone run of the game in the first inning when Jordan King singled and later scored on a fielder's choice by Kelcie Bormann
Winona State tied the score in the bottom of the first, then plated two runs on three hits in the third inning and added two more insurance runs in the fifth inning on four hits as the Warriors won 5-1.
WSC had six hits in the game, led by senior right fielder Kylee Simpson going 2 for 2 with Kaiti Williams finishing 2 for 4.  King and Melanie Alyea each singled with King scoring Wayne State's lone run
Junior Sara Scheffert suffered the pitching loss, giving up five runs (four earned) on eight hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
The second game saw Winona State's Hanna Lythberg out-dual Wayne State pitcher Sara Scheffert as the Warriors scored an unearned run in the bottom of the ninth inning to edge the Wildcats 3-2.
WSC opened the scoring with two runs in the top of the third without registering a hit.  Lexie Loos was hit by a pitch followed by a walk to King.  Megan Hagemann then reached base thanks to a Winona State error to load the bases.  The next at bat saw Kaiti Williams hit a grounder to second base that scored Loos after a throwing error by Winona State second baseman Jenny Nelson that also allowed King to score on the play for a 2-0 lead.
The Wildcat lead was short-lived as Winona State scored two runs on three hits in the bottom of the third inning to knot the score at 2-2.
The score remained tied until the ninth inning when Winona State got the leadoff batter on thanks to a Wildcat error.  WSC then intentionally walked the next batter and then Winona State's Morgan Lintz singled to left field scoring the game-winning run for the Warriors in a 3-2 win.
Wayne State had just three hits in the second game – a fifth inning single by Megan Hagemann, a seventh inning single from Lexie Loos and a ninth inning single by Melanie Alyea.
