Katie Hughes as the sixth-ranked Wildcats posted a 3-0 Northern Sun Conference volleyball sweep at MSU Moorhead Saturday afternoon in Moorhead, Minnesota. Scores of the match were 27-25, 25-20 and 25-21. WSC is now 22-3 and tied for first in the NSIC with a 14-2 league mark while the Dragons drop to 13-11 and 6-10 in league play.
The Wildcats built an early 11-4 lead on MSUM in the first set, but saw the host Dragons rally for a 17-16 lead. With the score tied at 21, WSC got consecutive kills from
Alyssa Frauendorfer to take a 23-21 lead. Tied at 25, the 'Cats used a
Katie Hughes kill and a Dragon attack error to close out the first set 27-25.
Wayne State forced eight MSU Moorhead attack errors in the second set and built an 18-10 lead before finishing with a 25-20 second set win over the Dragons.
The Wildcat defense came up big again in the third set, forcing the Dragons into 11 attack errors and a .021 attack percentage while
Courtney VanGroningen had two of her three service aces to help Wayne State complete the sweep with a 25-21 win over the Dragons.
Wayne State hit .194 in the match while holding the Dragons to a .099 attack percentage. The 'Cats had 44 kills with 14 errors on 155 attacks while MSU Moorhead finished with 39 kills and 24 errors on 151 attacks.
MSU Moorhead had 85 digs to 80 for WSC while the Dragons held a 7-5 advantage in blocks on the 'Cats.
Michaela Mestl led a balanced attack for the Wildcats with 13 kills and 13 digs for her 10
th double-double of the season.
Katie Hughes accounted for 11 kills and 20 digs for her 13
th double-double of the year.
Elizabeth Gebhardt added 10 kills for the Wildcats.

Courtney VanGroningen was credited with a team-high 24 digs and had three of Wayne State's five service aces while
Bree Ackermann produced the other two. Senior setter

The Wildcats will be at home next weekend, hosting #3 Concordia-St. Paul Friday evening at 7 p.m. and Minnesota State Saturday in a 4 p.m. contest.
