Missouri Western erased a 6-0 deficit by scoring 14 runs in the final three innings as the Griffons rallied for a 14-6 win over Wayne State College Sunday afternoon at the Apple Market Classic Softball Tournament in St. Joseph, Missouri.  MWSU is now 22-7 with WSC dropping to 5-14.  Wayne State's final game of the tournament against Washburn was cancelled due to cold weather.
Wayne State dominated the game in the first three innings while the host Griffons rallied with total control of the final three innings.
The Wildcats used four hits and a pair of walks to score five runs in the second inning.  Morgan Hoeg's RBI single scored Abbie Hix (walk) with the first run.  Katelyn Wobken's two-run single through the left side scored Hoeg and Caitlin Fehringer (walk) for a 3-0 Wildcat lead while Emily Chandler's two-run double to left field brought home Wobken and Lexie Loos (single) for a 5-0 WSC advantage.
WSC added another run in the third inning for a 6-0 lead when Shelby Wobken blasted her fourth home run of the season to lead off the inning.
But Missouri Western started to click offensively in the bottom of the fourth, using four hits, three walks and a Wildcat error to score five runs that trimmed the WSC lead to 6-5.
The Griffons scored another five runs in the fifth inning on six hits for a 10-6 lead and added four more runs in the bottom of the sixth on four more hits to make the final score 14-6 in six innings.
Missouri Western finished with 14 hits in the contest to nine for WSC.  Chandler finished 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI's while Loos also had two hits in four plate appearances.  Shelby Wobken homered while Katelyn Wobken, Hix, Alyssa Schropp and Hoeg each singled.
Senior Cassy Miller (4-9) suffered the pitching loss, working 4 1/3 innings.  Riley VanderVeen pitched 2/3 innings of relief with Shelby Wobken adding 1/3 inning of relief.
Wayne State will open Northern Sun Conference play on Tuesday afternoon hosting Augustana University in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.  The contest was originally scheduled for Wednesday at 2 p.m. but was moved up one day due to predicted bad weather.
