Box Score 2 Game 1 - Wayne State 9 Minot State 2Game 2 - Wayne State 12 Minot State 2 Wayne State College completed a four-game weekend sweep on their longest conference road trip of the season by winning 9-2 and 11-2 at Minot State Saturday afternoon in Northern Sun Conference softball played at Herb Parker Stadium in Minot, North Dakota. WSC improves to 10-15 on the season and 5-1 in the NSIC while Minot State is now 11-11 and 0-4 in league play.
In the opener, WSC scored at least one run in six of the seven innings while pounding out 15 hits as the Wildcats posted a 9-2 victory over the Beavers.
WSC opened the scoring with a three-run first as
Lexie Loos singled and scored on a
Melanie Alyea RBI single with Alyea crossing home plate on an
Abbie Hix home run to center field. The 'Cats took a 4-0 lead in the second on a
Morgan Hoeg solo homer and increased the lead to 6-0 in the top of the third when Hix belted another two-run homer over the center field fence to score
Melanie Alyea (single).
After Minot State scored both of their runs in the bottom of the third, WSC added single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to make the final score 9-2. In the fifth, Hix singled and scored on a
Caitlin Fehringer single.

Sam O'Brien reached on an error. The final run came when Fehringer reached on an error in the seventh and scored on a
Katelyn Wobken sacrifice fly.
Loos finished 5 for 5 to lead the Wildcat offensive attack followed by Hix, who was 3 for 4 with a pair of home runs, four RBI and three runs scored.
Melanie Alyea was 3 for 5 with two runs scored. Other Wildcat hitters included
Morgan Hoeg with a solo home run while Katleyn Wobken,
Alyssa Schropp and Fehringer each singled.
Senior
Cassy Miller fired six strong innings to earn the pitching win, improving to 6-10 on the year. She fanned seven batters while allowing just four hits and two runs with three walks. Senior reliever
Sarah Macias worked the seventh inning and retired all three batters faced with one strikeout.
The second game saw WSC break open a close game with a five-run fifth followed by a four-run seventh allowing the Wildcats to pull away for a 12-2 win over Minot State to complete the sweep.
The Wildcats scored in the top of the first when
Katelyn Wobken's double brought home Loos (single) for a 1-0 WSC lead.
Minot State tied the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the third without a hit, using a walk, Wildcat error and wild pitch to score their run.
Wayne State took the lead for good with two runs in the top of the fourth. Fehringer reached on a fielder's choice and scored when Loos reached on a MISU error. The second run resulted from a double play ball that scored Hoeg (singled).
WSC broke the game open in the fifth with five runs on five hits. O'Brien began the scoring surge with a bases loaded single that scored
Emily Chandler (single). Hoeg produced a two-run double that scored O'Brien and
Shelby Wobken (walk) for a 6-1 lead while Loos delivered a two-run single to left field that scored Hoeg and Fehringer to put the 'Cats in front 8-1.
Minot State got a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 9-2, then WSC added three insurance runs in the top of the seventh for a 12-2 score.
Katelyn Wobken's RBI single scored Hoeg (walk), then
Emily Chandler doubled to right center field scoring Loos (single) while Wobken scored on a MISU error for the final run.
WSC had 14 hits in the contest, led by Loos who was 3 for 5 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Katelyn Wobken was 2 for 4 with three RBI while Chandler, Hoeg and
Melanie Alyea each added two hits in the win.
Miller picked up another win in the pitching circle for the Wildcats. She started the game and worked the first three innings without giving up a hit and striking out five.
Shelby Wobken worked the next two innings and was charged with one run on five hits. Miller then pitched the last two innings and struck out three more batters while allowing just one hit.
The Wildcats will be on the road again Tuesday afternoon visiting #15 Winona State in a NSIC doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
