#17 Winona State defeated #20 Wayne State 22-25, 25-20, 25-20 and 25-21 in a Northern Sun Conference volleyball match played Saturday afternoon at Rice Auditorium in Wayne. The host Wildcats slip to 15-10 and 8-7 in league play while Winona State is now 16-7 and 10-5 in NSIC contests.
The Wildcats posted a 25-22 win in the first set thanks to a balanced attack while forcing seven Winona State attack errors. With the score tied at 21, WSC got kills from
Tarrin Beller and
Alyssa Ballenger to take a 23-21 lead. Following a Winona State kill, the 'Cats closed the set with kills from
Jaci Brahmer and Ballenger to capture the first set.
Winona State got the hot hand attacking in the second set with a .421 percentage to take down the Wildcats 25-20. With WSC trailing 17-15, Winona State reeled off five straight points to take control of the set for a 22-15 lead.
The Warriors came out hot in the third set, taking a 10-1 lead on the Wildcats, on their way to a 25-20 third set win. Freshman Ali Timmermans led WSC in the set with four kills on seven attacks.
WSC trailed for much of the fourth set, then rallied to tie the score at 20-20 before the visiting Warriors finished the set scoring five of the final six points for a 25-21 set win to take the match 3-1. Brahmer led WSC in the final set with four kills while sophomore
Morgan Alexander had a team-high seven digs with one service ace.
Winona State finished the match hitting .273 with 69 kills, 21 errors and 176 attacks while WSC recorded a .203 percentage with 51 kills, 19 errors and 158 attacks.
The Warriors held a 79-75 edge in digs while WSC had one more block than Winona State 7-6. The Wildcats also had two more service aces (6-4) in the contest.

Katie Stephens led WSC with 14 kills and 13 digs.
Jaci Brahmer added 10 kills and five blocks.

Haley Kauth accounted for 24 digs with sophomore reserve
Morgan Alexander credited with 13 digs and 12 set assists. Freshman
Maddie Duffy had two of Wayne State's six service aces while junior setter
Megan Gebhardt handed out a team-high 26 set assists.
Wayne State is on the road Tuesday evening for an NSIC contest at #15 Augustana starting at 6 p.m.
