Day 1 Results NSIC Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships

Mikhail Sands earned medals for Wayne State on the opening day of the 2020 Northern Sun Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships in Mankato, Minnesota. As a team, Wayne State sat in sixth place after the first day of competition with 15 points.
Minnesota State is the team leader with 50 points followed by Augustana in second place at 37. MSU Moorhead was third at 23 points followed by the University of Mary (21.5) and Northern State fifth with 17.5 points. Wayne State was sixth with 15 points with Minnesota Duluth (12), Sioux Falls (10), Concordia-St. Paul (5) and Southwest Minnesota State and Minot State (2 each) rounding out the team scoring.
Kalkowski earned All-NSIC honors in the weight throw with a second place mark of 67' 3 1/4", an NCAA provisional mark that moves him up to sixth place in NCAA Division II. Senior
Dylan Kaup also placed in the event, just missing All-NSIC honors with a fourth place finish at 62' 8".
Sophomore
Mikhail Sands also scored points on Friday with a seventh place finish in the long jump at 21' 10 ¼".
In the running prelims, senior
Nathan Pearson advanced to Saturday's finals in the 800-meter run with the #6 qualifying time of 1:57.89.
The final day of the NSIC Indoor Track and Field Championships will take place Saturday in Mankato with field events starting at 9:30 a.m. and finals in all running events starting at 1 p.m.
