After posting 18 hits in their first game of the day, Wayne State College was held to just three hits by Central Missouri Friday evening as the Jennies defeated the Wildcats 5-1 at the Washburn Invitational Softball Tournament in Topeka, Kansas. WSC falls to 0-2 on the year while UCM improves to 2-0.
Central Missouri scored single runs in the first and second innings for a 2-0 lead and added three more runs in the fifth for a 5-0 advantage.
Wayne State got on the board in the top of the sixth inning when
Ashley Hernandez walked with two outs and scored on a
Kamryn Sparks double to left center field to close the scoring in the 5-1 Central Missouri win.
Central Missouri held a 7-3 edge in hits over the Wildcats. Besides a double from Sparks,
Kortney Buresh and
Kim Vidlak each singled.
Senior pitcher
Maddie Moser was tagged with the pitching loss, allowing seven hits and five runs with five strikeouts and two walks.
Wayne State plays two more games Saturday at the Washburn Invitational, facing Rockhurst at 11 a.m. and Truman State in a 3 p.m. contest.
