Sophomore
Logan Moeller opened the 2022-23 indoor track and field season with event wins in the long jump and triple jump to lead the Wayne State College men at the season opening South Dakota State Holiday Invite held at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex in Brookings, South Dakota Friday and Saturday.
           Moeller, a graduate of Pierce High School, opened the day with a first place finish in the long jump at 23' 1 ¾" and later posted another first place mark in the triple jump with a leap of 47' ¾".Â
           Another highlight for the Wildcat men was a new school record in the 300-meter dash as freshman
Alex Leuenberger (Waverly HS) broke a 30-year-old record in the event placing third in 35.42 seconds. The old school record was 36.4 set by Todd Rolfes in 1991. Platteview freshman
Mitchell Rudie also eclipsed the previous school record in the event with a fourth place finish at 36.01 seconds while Norris freshman
Austin Madsen took sixth in the event at 36.90 seconds.
           Senior thrower
Grant Fritsch took fifth place in the weight throw (57' 5 ½") and was seventh in the discus (141' 9 3/4") while freshman
Matthew Logue was ninth in the discus at 138' 7".
           Sophomore
Braden Johnson placed sixth in the long jump (21' 4 ¾"), freshman
Keaton Wattier (O'Neill HS) was seventh in the finals of the 60-meter dash in 8.52 seconds while Wakefield junior Gabe Peitz took eighth in the one mile run at 4:30.61.Â
           In the high jump, Wisner-Pilger junior
Dylan Kneifl claimed seventh place at 6' 6 ¾" while sophomore
Alex Brandt took ninth clearing 6' 4 ¾".Â
           Sophomore
Daniel Elge was seventh in the shot put with a top mark of 48' 4 ½" while freshman
Daylin Mallory (Norfolk HS) was eighth at 48' 3 ¼".

Edgar Rodriguez took seventh in a time of 3:28.17.
           The 2023 indoor track and field season resumes on Saturday, January 14 at the South Dakota Kickoff Meet in Vermillion at the Dakota Dome.
