Chipps hits two NCAA provisional marks at South Dakota Invite

            Junior Brooklynn Chipps hit an NCAA provisional and personal best mark in the hammer throw along with an NCAA provisional mark in the shot put to lead the Wayne State women's track and field team at South Dakota Invite held at Vermillion, South Dakota Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  The meet attracted Division I schools from South Dakota, South Dakota State, Omaha, North Dakota and North Dakota State, plus NSIC schools that included Sioux Falls, Southwest Minnesota State and Minot State along with several NAIA and NCAA Division III schools.
            Chipps, a graduate of Clearwater HS, hit an NCAA provisional and personal best mark in the hammer throw at 197' 11" to finish second in a strong field of NCAA Division I throwers in the event.  Her throw now ranks #2 in the NSIC and #3 in NCAA Division II.  She also finished seventh in the shot put at 46' 1 ½", another NCAA provisional mark.
            Graduate student Mckenzie Scheil collected a fourth place finish in the hammer throw at 189' 1 ¾" while senior Allie Rosener was fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 11:45.05.  Sophomore hurdler Megan Hansen also had a fourth place finish in the 100-meter hurdle finals in 14.51 seconds.
            The Wildcat 4 x 100 meter relay team of Emily Erickson, Sarah Cotton, Emily Smollen and Maya Couch came in fourth place in 50.40 seconds.
            Smollen placed fifth in the triple jump at 38' 0" while Keyla Sambo was ninth at 37' 5 ¾"
            Kendra Paasch earned a ninth place finish in the shot put (44' 1 ½") and Reilly Young was 10th in the discus with a mark of 146' 11 ¾".
            Most of the Wildcat women's team will compete Thursday at the Prairie Wolf Invite in Lincoln hosted by Nebraska Wesleyan while several others will travel to Des Moines for the Drake Relays Friday and Saturday.
