The Wayne State women's track and field team opened the season Friday at SDSU Holiday Invite at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex in Brookings, South Dakota. The Wildcats finished in a tie for fifth place out of 18 teams scoring 33 points.
South Dakota won the team title with 166.5 points followed by South Dakota State with 123 points. Augustana was third with 50 points, Dordt fourth at 45 points and WSC and North Dakota tied for fifth with 33 points.
Distance runner
Lindsey Stuckey had the top Wildcat finish taking second in the 5,000-meter run at 19:00.58.
Kylie Pachta was fourth and
Meghan Cunningham fifth in the one mile run with times of 5:31.37 and 5:32.48 respectively.
Senior
Megan Hansen made the finals in the 60-meter hurdles and collected a fifth-place finish in 9.17 seconds.
Faith Polacek was sixth in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:29.48 and
Maya Couch placed 10
th in the 200-meter dash in 26.53 seconds.
Sophomore
Olivia Schwarzrock posted a sixth place finish in the shot put with a top mark of 42' 10 ¾".
Wayne State resumes the 2024 indoor track and field season on Saturday, January 13
th at the Mount Marty Invite in Yankton, South Dakota.
