Senior thrower
Daniel Elge earned a sixth-place medal in the weight throw to lead the Wayne State men's indoor track and field team on the opening day of the 2025 Northern Sun Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships in Mankato, Minnesota.
           Minnesota State is the team leader after the first day with 65.5 points followed by Northern State in second at 29 and MSU Moorhead third with 27. Sioux Falls (17.5) and Minnesota Duluth (14) close out the top five teams while WSC is 10
th place with three points.
           Elge, a senior from Aurora, captured sixth-place in the weight throw with a personal-best mark of 58' 9 ½" while Norfolk freshman
Samuel Zazueta just missed a medal by 1 ½ inches taking ninth at 57' 5 ½".
           In the running prelims, Wayne State had three athletes qualify for finals on Saturday.
           Senior
Quentin Dreyer was the #5 qualifier in the 1,000-meter run at 2:35.77. Freshman
Emmanuel Badejo had the fourth-fastest time in the 400-meter dash prelims at 49.39 seconds while Stanton freshman
Mitchell Hupp qualified for the 200-meter dash finals with the #8 qualifying time of 22.11 seconds.
           The second and final day of the NSIC Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held Saturday with pentathlon events beginning at 9 a.m. followed by field events at 1 p.m. and finals in all running events starting at 1:30 p.m. in Mankato, Minnesota. Â
