Wildcats Open Season in Dominate Fashion at the Dordt Dome

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2             Wildcats dominated in their first game of the season against the Dordt Defenders. WSC dominated the Defenders in Game 1, 9-0 with 12 hits and zero errors. The 'Cats continued to roll in Game 2, blanking Dordt again and put up eight runs. Emilee Marth was a perfect 5 of 5 with seven RBIs and five runs scored. Taylor Coleman started in the circle in Game 1 for the 'Cats in her WSC debut and struck out eight batters in 4.1 innings and Kennadi Borngrebe started Game 2 and struck out seven batters in four innings. WSC improves to 2-0 to start the season.
 
Game 1:
            The Wildcats traveled to Sioux Center, Iowa to play in the Dordt Dome against the Defenders. In the first inning, sophomore Taylor Coleman struck out the side in her debut for the 'Cats. WSC opened the scoring with one run scored in the second. Lillie Timm singled to the shortstop and Emilee Marth scored on a throwing error by the shortstop.
            Dordt had a runner stranded on first after being walked in the bottom of the second, as Coleman stuck out two batters.
            In the top of the third, WSC scored six runs on four hits. With bases loaded, Timm singled out to the right side and batted in Kennadi Borngrebe for the second run of the game. The Dordt pitcher walked the next two Wildcat batters, giving WSC two more runs to Jordyn Rochholz and Marth. Jordyn Klein slapped one towards the short stopped and reached first on a fielders choice and earned an RBI as Timm stepped on home plate. Maddie Scobee earned two RBIs With Masyn Bunnell and Mary Krystofiak scoring the 6th and 7th runs for Wayne.
            Dordt looked to respond but Coleman had other ideas. She struck out the Defenders in order and closed out the third inning. WSC scored their final two runs in the top of the fourth. Rochholz doubled out to left to get on base. Marth followed with a single and Rochholz rounded third for her second run of the evening. Marth scored right after on a Timm single.
            Coleman struck out two of the next three batters in the bottom of the fourth inning after giving up the only hit of the game. WSC would not score again for the remainder of the game. Grace Lucka came in to close out the first game of the season for the 'Cats and struck out the last out.
            Coleman finished with eight strikeouts in her debut for the 'Cats in 4.1 innings. Marth and Timm went perfect, both going 3 for 3 and combined for four runs scored.
 
Game 2:
            After a scoreless first inning, WSC figured out it in the second. With bases loaded, Marth doubled to left field and all three runners, Leah Chance, Krystofia, and Rochholz, scored to make it 3-0. Klein followed up with a single and Marth made it home for her first run of Game 2.
            Borngrebe started in the circle for the 'Cats and struck out two batters in the second inning and the third grounded out to second to avoid any scores by Dordt.
            Borngrebe opened the third inning for the 'Cats with a home run, her first of the season. A few batters later and with a pair of runners on, Marth hit a three-run homer to give the Wildcats and eight run lead of Dordt.
            The Defenders would get two hits in the bottom of the third but were unable to take advantage as Borngrebe struck out two more batters and a line out to right field ended the inning.
            WSC was put down in order in the fourth but Borngrebe responded by striking out the side for the Defenders for a quick fourth inning.
            Samantha Felt subbed in to finish out the contest for the Wildcats and helped keep Dordt off the score board with a groundout to herself and two to shortstop. WSC would win Game 2 8-0.
            Klein went 3 for 3 and Marth was 2 for 2 with two runs and six RBIs. Borngrebe struck out seven batters in four innings pitched and went 1 for 2 with one run and one RBI.
WSC will be back at the Dordt Dome on February 12th to take on Briar Cliff in a double header.
