Three Wildcats collect All-NSIC Second Team Softball honors

            Wayne State College had three players named to the 2025 Northern Sun Conference All-Conference Softball Team announced Tuesday afternoon by the league office in Burnsville, Minnesota.  Sophomore outfielder Emilee Marth, sophomore infielder/pitcher Taylor Coleman and freshman utility player Kennadi Borngrebe each received All-NSIC Second Team honors in voting conducted by league coaches.
            Marth, a sophomore outfielder from Nebraska City (Nebraska City HS), led the Wildcats in most offensive categories this season posting a .358 batting average with a new school record 17 doubles, five home runs and 31 RBI.  She is tied for the team lead in hits with 57 and runs scored with 32, ranking second in the NSIC in doubles and 10th in hit by pitches (6).  Marth is tied for second on the team in multi-hit games with 16 and also second in multiple-RBI contests with eight.  She opened the season going 5 for 5 with two doubles, a home run and seven RBI in a sweep at Dordt.  Marth also homered in back-to-back wins at Sioux Falls April 19th going 3 for 6 at the plate with three RBI.
            Coleman, a sophomore infielder/pitcher from Lincoln (Southwest HS), has started 52 of 53 games this season for the Wildcats and has a .276 batting average while posting a 5-6 record in the circle with a 2.49 earned run average.  She leads the Wildcats in stolen bases (12-14) and has 13 doubles (second on the team) with 42 hits and 21 RBI.  Coleman went 5 for 7 with four doubles and four RBI in a doubleheader sweep at Northern State April 5th.  As a pitcher, she had three complete games in 16 starts and has struck out 94 batters in 81.2 innings of work allowing just 29 earned runs, ranked eighth-fewest in the NSIC. 
            Borngrebe, a redshirt freshman from Elkhorn South HS, has led the Wildcat pitching staff this season while also posting a .254 batting average with nine multi-hit games this season.  In the circle, she has a 13-9 record with a 2.64 ERA and ranks fourth in the NSIC in strikeouts at 155 in just 130 innings of work.  Named NSIC Pitcher of the Week three times this season, Borngrebe has 11 complete games with four shutouts and two combined shutouts and ranks ninth in the league in opponent batting average (.231).  At the plate, Borngrebe has two home runs and 22 RBI with three triples and 36 hits this season as designated player with a .401 slugging percentage. 
            Wayne State, 30-23 on the season, has posted a 30-win season for the first time since 2015.  The Wildcats have qualified for the NSIC Tournament for the first time since 2019 and faces Southwest Minnesota State Wednesday at 12 p.m. in the opening round of the NSIC Softball Tournament in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
