The Wayne State College women's golf team finished in a tie for third place in a close team race at the two-day Wildcat Classic played Monday and Tuesday at the Wayne Country Club. The Wildcats shot rounds of 304 and 305 to close the 36-hole event at 609.
Nebraska-Kearney used a +6 team score on the final day to capture the team title shooting 308-294 for a 602, six shots ahead of second place Concordia-St. Paul at 608. Wayne State and Minnesota State tied for third at 609 with Sioux Falls in fifth at 612. Morningside was sixth (615) followed by Augustana (621), Winona State (626), Nebraska-Kearney B (641) and Minnesota Crookston at 645 in the top 10.
Rounding out the team scores were Concordia (Neb.) at 654, Bemidji State (686), Sioux Falls B (687), MSU Moorhead (693) and UMary at 706.
Wayne State had three players tie for fifth place overall out of a field of 86 players with 36-hole totals of 151.
Erica Lee,
Gaia Stancikova and
Hailey Kenkel each shot 75 on Monday and rounds of 76 Tuesday.
Camryn Johnson and
Saffire Sayre both finished in a tie for 29
th overall at 157. Johnson produced scores of 79-78 while Sayre shot 80-77.
WSC also had three individuals play in the event. Senior
Meg Thompson tied for 17
th overall thanks to a pair of 77's to finish the tournament at 154.
Kylie Powers tied for 50
th overall at 162 shooting 84 and 78 while
Olivia Ottman placed 82
nd in the tournament at 189 with scores of 95 and 94.
Wayne State competes in the Northern Sun Conference Championships April 22-24 in Blue Springs, Missouri.
