Sophomore
Gaia Stancikova shot five-over par 221 over three days to lead the Wayne State College women's golf team to an eighth-place finish at the Spring Region Preview that concluded Tuesday in Monkey Island, Oklahoma at Shangri-La Country Club. The Wildcats finished the three0-day, 54-hole event with scores of 312-298-296 for a 910, the second-lowest 54-hole team score in school history.
Arkansas Tech, ranked #32 in NCAA Division II, captured the team title in the 17-team tournament with an 882 (295-288-299) followed by #48 Central Oklahoma and #45 Southwestern Oklahoma State tied for second at 892. Northwest Missouri State and #29 Rogers State of Oklahoma tied for fourth at 894 with Washburn right behind in sixth at 895. #7 Central Missouri came in seventh at 899 with WSC next in eighth at 910. Harding (915) and Missouri Western at 938 closed out the top 10 team scores.
Stancikova, a sophomore from Castel San Pietro Terme, Italy, fired the best-ever 54-hole score by a Wildcat women's golfer shooting +5 221 with rounds of even-par 72 followed by 75 and 74. The previous school record was held by current Wildcat
Erica Lee at 222 and set at last year's NCAA Central Regional in Edmond, Oklahoma. She ended the tournament tied for ninth overall out of a field of 90 players.
Lee, a junior from Millard North HS, ended the three-day event on a strong note with a one-under par 71 Tuesday to tie the school record for 18-hole score and finished the tournament at 228 (78-79-71) tied for 29
th overall.
Senior
Saffire Sayre tied for 31
st overall with a 229 after posting scores of 81-73-75. Broken Bow sophomore
Camryn Johnson tied for 43
rd overall with a 234 after shooting rounds of 85 Sunday, even-par 72 Monday and a 77 Tuesday.
Junior
Hailey Kenkel (Grand Island Senior HS) shot scores of 85-78-76 for a 239 and tied for 59
th overall.
Wayne State's next meet is Monday and Tuesday, April 13 and 14
th, hosting the Wildcat Classic at the Wayne Country Club.
